About Us: History

The roots of the Whitehead organization can be traced back to 1929 when Bob Whitehead accepted a job with Georgia Power Company. Bob’s career spanned from an equipment specialist on day one to an executive level position with the company. He worked for Georgia Power for over 30 years, retiring in 1968 as Senior Vice President over Operations.

Though Bob did not have any ties to Whitehead & Associates directly, he exposed the electrical industry to his son, Pat Whitehead. After graduating from Georgia Tech, Pat went to work for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA. Not taking long to realize that plant operations was not for him, Pat interviewed for a sales job within the Westinghouse organization. That was the start of a 42 year sales career.

After Westinghouse and Kearney sales and management positions and with 11 years of industry experience, Pat opened the doors of Whitehead & Associates on July 1, 1968. The Whitehead organization was born with one principal, one employee and one state. Twenty two years of growth led to three states and 6 employees.

In 1991, after many years of successful growth and additional employees, Scott Whitehead came on board opening a second office for the company in Birmingham, Alabama. With the growth of the Birmingham office under way, a new Alabama territory manager was hired. At that same time, January 1994, Scott moved to Atlanta to begin a 6 year transition plan of the company.

Pat and Scott worked together for the next six years along side a growing team of first class individuals to continue the company’s growth. With the company up to 13 people and two divisions, Pat decided to retire. He left behind a company with a reputation second to none in our industry. A company where ethics, high moral standards, treating people right and having fun while doing it mattered.

2001 brought the addition of two additional employees and a new division within the company. The lighting group within Whitehead was born similar to the way the Whitehead organization was began in 1968 – one principal and one state. That is no longer the case as it now has seven people, four states and national account responsibility that takes them as far as California.

The Whitehead & Associates organization is proud of all the history and success over the past few decades. With a young, energetic staff alongside our seasoned veterans, Whitehead & Associates is poised for many more years of successful growth and expansion.
